Northeast Coast’s "Mini Great Wall"—Where the Ocean Meets the Sky
Picture this: rolling green hills, a winding wooden trail, clear blue skies, and the endless ocean all coming together like a painting. That’s Bitou Cape Trail for you! It’s become one of Northern Taiwan’s hottest check-in spots. Honestly, as long as you’ve got a little stamina and patience to make it to the top, you’re guaranteed to get some amazing, Insta-worthy shots from every angle.
But it’s not just for the photos—hiking lovers have had this spot on their radar for ages. The whole wooden trail is about 3.5 kilometers long. Along the way, you’ll get to see dramatic coastlines, crazy sea-erosion rock formations, crashing waves, and beautiful coastal wildflowers. Plus, you get a full 360-degree view at the top. The entire Northeast Coast is right at your feet, and the view where the ocean meets the sky is just breathtaking.
If you really want to take your time and soak it all in, I’d recommend setting aside 2 to 3 hours. That way, you can easily stroll through the hills and enjoy the massive ocean views without rushing. Oh, and don’t forget to check out the Bitou Cape Tingtao Cafe—it’s a cool, camo-themed cafe tucked away in the valley!
Zhengbin Port Color Houses
With its bright, colorful houses reflecting off the sea, this place looks straight out of a storybook—kind of like Italy’s Cinque Terre, but with a distinct Taiwanese vibe. This is Zhengbin Fishing Port. Back in 1934, during the Japanese colonial era, it was actually Taiwan’s biggest port. Even today, you can still catch glimpses of its bustling past when it was packed with merchant ships and fresh catches. Now, it’s completely transformed into a vibrant, playful fishing village and a super popular spot to hang out. The "Color Houses" right by the harbor have become a major landmark where everyone loves to snap photos.
These multi-colored houses look just like a kid’s paint palette—so cute, warm, and inviting. As the fishing boats gently rock in the harbor and the water sparkles in the sun, time here feels like a breezy, nostalgic old song. This cozy little harbor beautifully holds onto its rich history while embracing a peaceful present. The old buildings by the water have been given a whole new life, and their bright, cheerful colors bring a fresh, lively energy to the entire port.
Heping Island Park.
Heping Island Geopark is an amazing place where nature meets history, making it perfect for a day trip or a field trip!
Located just northeast of Keelung, Heping Island was actually one of the very first places in northern Taiwan to welcome Western explorers and Han settlers. Over the years, the constant wind and crashing waves have sculpted the coastline into a stunning, open-air "geology museum." As you walk around, you’ll see some really cool rock formations like the famous "tofu rocks," mushroom rocks, and Lion Head Rock. You can even spot ancient fossils and unique coastal plants! Plus, if you're into history, there’s a cave called "Fanzi Cave" that still holds traces from the Spanish and Dutch colonial eras.
There’s plenty to do here, too. When the tide goes out, you can explore the tidal pools and look for little sea creatures on the erosion platforms. If it's a hot summer day, you can jump into the park's natural seawater swimming pool to cool off. Oh, and if you're visiting in the summer, don't miss the exclusive Alabao Bay—just make sure to book a guided tour in advance!

Keelung Night Market.
Right around Dianji Temple on Rensan Road—stretching from Ai 2nd to Ai 3rd Road—you’ll find the legendary Keelung Miaokou Night Market. It’s only about 300 to 400 meters long, but it’s packed with nearly 200 food stalls! Walking through here, your mouth won't stop moving for a second. It's the kind of place that makes you wish you had a second stomach just so you could try absolutely everything.
Every single vendor here brings their A-game, serving up unique, mouth-watering dishes with generous portions and fair prices. No wonder this place is always buzzing with energy! They’ve got everything you can think of: famous local eats like Ding Bian Cuo (potside scrapings soup), tempura, pork thick soup, oyster omelets, and braised pork rice. From fresh seafood and juicy grilled chicken to refreshing fruit ice, the flavors are so authentic that eating your way down the street feels like a food tour of the entire island.
